Clever use of ICT - vision and implementation

Clever use of ICT at SEAL

Upon completion of their project, the team was asked to share their vision of a clever use of ICT at their centre.

  • A clever use of ICTs will mean that we will be able to put more resource materials on our system for students to access, as our range of what we deliver increases with access to online technologies. students3.jpg
  • A clever use of ICTs could mean that we will be able to meet the needs of different groups of people and meet the diversity in their educational needs. The students across our educational delivery will be able to access information that pertains to their course delivery much more confidently. We will also be able to partner with the smaller community houses.

Clever use - what could it look like?

  • SEAL is working towards a 50% blend of online and face-to face activities.
  • They want to focus on creating community - building an online community is one of the attractive aspects of online technologies. Keeping the group together is very important – it is essential to build in the ability to interact online and to work together as a group.
  • The next move is to make online access more of a resource for picking up information for classes that are missed. Students can then access information out of class hours.

Key elements/ Challenges

  • Funding time for the tutor and delivery.
  • Reasonable community access to ICT infrastructure. That is a real hurdle when you consider the community that ACE generally delivers to.
  • Look at partnerships. ACE organisations will have to provide support and flexibility to support students in access to online technologies.
  • Extending the reach to other classes being run at SEAL.
  • Online peer support and Q and A sessions. They are investigating basic infrastructure available for a SEAL online community chat room.
